Weight Supported Locomotion Treadmill Training

The LiteGait is used to generate normal walking patterns by controlling weight bearing, balance and posture during walking therapy. Recent research has demonstrated this training stimulates the whole nervous system & the Central Pattern Generator in the lower spinal cord to help create new motor memories to replace the old ones.  http://www.litegait.com/home.

 

Electrical Stimulation Cycling

ergysElectrical Stimulation Bicycles are utilized at NextStepsNW -The ERGYS Rehabilitation System & Restorative Therapy e-stim bike.  Both use computerized functional electrical stimulation (CFES) to allow persons with little or no voluntary leg movement to actively pedal a stationary leg-cycle ergometer. Computer generated, low-level electrical pulses transmitted through surface electrodes cause coordinated contractions of the large muscles of the legs. The benefits to this therapy include the prevention of muscle atrophy, relaxation of muscle spasms, improved circulation, and increased range of motion.  Visualization-Activation Muscle Training

 

Utilizing mirrors, applied pressure and limb resistance, clients visualize each movement and work to replace patterns of nonuse.

 

 

 

Other Equipment

Mirrors are used in all exercises to provide visual feedback.

A wide range of exercise equipment is used for "out of the box" training.  These techniques increase strength, range of motion, balance and control.  These exercises, incorporated into a workout, keep it fun yet challenging.

 

 

Total Gym

The Total Gym is used for lower body and core exercises.  Clients are able to perform partial body weight squats (assisted and unassisted) in order to strengthen and relearn to control movement. Balancing in the upright position on the Total Gym helps strengthen the trunk and core muscles. This equipment benefits all levels of ability

 

Precor Workstation Tower

The Precor Tower is utilized in overall body strength training exercises. You perform the exercises in and out of your wheelchair to increase mobility and core strength.

 

 


Standing Frame Glider

 

The glider builds cardio-vascular health, maintains bone density and increases circulation. This is an excellent exercise to teach the body to regulate blood pressure while standing. 

 

 

 

 

Parallel Bars


Al Standing

Clients who have progressed to this level work on standing exercises including weight shifting, balance, proper stance and foot placement with a goal of taking their first steps again. Clients are able to view themselves from the side and front in mirrors to assess their form and posture.
